Now Offering: Multi-State Telehealth Therapy For Mental Health with PSYPACT

Telehealth and video therapy visits with psychologists are here to stay.

Dr. Steven J. Hanley now offers Telehealth Therapy visits to a growing number of states across the country.

Some psychologists, like myself, used HIPAA compliant video platforms to provide video sessions before COVID-19. During the pandemic most psychologists I know met exclusively by video with their patients. Since the end of the pandemic I still spend a substantial part of my work day having therapeutic conversations on the computer. I don’t anticipate this ever changing.

While my preference remains meeting in person, the convenience of video therapy sessions is too compelling to ignore. This is especially the case now that I have been authorized by PSYPACT (The Psychological Interjurisdictional Compact) to provide telehealth services across state lines.

The PSYPACT enables licensed psychologists to provide telehealth services to clients residing in other participating states. This groundbreaking agreement allows individuals to access crucial mental health support regardless of geographical boundaries, enhancing accessibility, flexibility, and continuity of care.

At present there are 40 states that have enacted PSYPACT legislation. As long as I practice physically from my home state of Michigan (which I have no plans of changing) I can also provide telehealth service in these participating states.

As of August 1st, 2023 these states include: Alabama, Arizona, Arkansas, Colorado, Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands, Connecticut, Delaware, District of Columbia, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Maine, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Jersey, North Carolina, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Virginia, Washington, West Virginia, Wisconsin, and Wyoming. Vermont is scheduled to make this effective in July of 2024. A few other states have some pending legislation to approve PSYPACT.
