Fees & Insurance
I have made a very deliberate decision to participate as an in-network provider for only two insurance: Blue Cross Blue Shield PPO and Aetna. If you have either of these insurances I am happy to bill your insurance company directly and receive payment from them.
If you have any other insurance you may have “out-of-network” benefits. That means you would pay me directly and I would provide you with a detailed billing statement that you can submit to your insurance company for reimbursement.
I am not a Medicare provider. I have “Opted Out” of Medicare. This means that neither I nor you are able to submit the bill to Medicare for services rendered. This would be an out of pocket expense that would not be covered at all by Medicare.
Also, I am not a provider for Blue Care Network (BCN) and my understanding is that they do not provide any coverage for out-of-network providers. I make special note of that here because this BCN is affiliated with Blue Cross Blue Shield (which I do accept) and sometimes there is some confusion.
A note about Marriage Therapy or Couples Counseling: Insurance plans, including BCBS, generally do not cover marriage or relationship-focused therapy. Because of this, and because couples work involves a different scope and fee structure, I do not bill insurance for couples counseling. If you have questions about how insurance handles this or want to talk through options, I’m happy to discuss the details.
My current rates (2023) for psychotherapy services are:
Diagnostic Evaluation (first appointment) - CPT code 90791: $250
Individual Psychotherapy 55 minutes - CPT code 90837: $225
Marriage Therapy 55 minutes - CPT code CPT code 90847: $225
I reserve a few slots for reduced fee psychotherapy but none are available at the current time. Here are some clinic options that I often refer to who accept a wider range of insurance and/or offer sliding scale or reduced fee private pay psychotherapy:
